Update on SFI following DEFRA’s announcement

Following DEFRA’s shock announcement that the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme has
closed for new applications we want to take a moment to highlight what this means for you and
your business.

In short, the change means that;

o Existing SFI agreements will be honoured
o SFI Agreements that have been submitted should be processed and, if they fit the criteria,
approved
o SFI applications that weren't submitted before the announcement will not be offered

This has happened with the promise that a new scheme will be reformed in summer 2025 and open
to applications in 2026.

This news comes hot on the heels of the announcement of the reduction in Basic Payment Scheme
payments and is a further blow to farming businesses’ bottom lines.

In light of these changes and the Inheritance tax changes on the horizon there’s never been a more
important time to review your business from a profitability point of view, to understand the impact
on your cash flows going forward, and to budget and plan accordingly.

We are here to help you to understand the impact on your individual circumstances and to help you
to navigate this period of change.
